Reckless driver causes multi-car wreck on California highway

It is always a good idea for California drivers to practice defensive driving when on the road, whether they are on a trip to the grocery store or traveling on the freeway from one town or city to the next. Unfortunately, no matter how safe a driver is, it just takes the actions of one reckless driver to cause an accident.

A recent multi-car collision on Interstate 80 should serve as a strong reminder that accidents can happen without warning and in the blink of an eye.

Police have accused a Sacramento man of reckless driving after he apparently hit another vehicle and caused two others to collide. According to the California Highway Patrol, the accused driver was traveling at speeds of more than 100 miles per hour and using the center median as a passing lane before he lost control of his vehicle and hit a guardrail.

The impact then evidently caused his vehicle to bounce off of the guardrail, hitting another car. The other two vehicles apparently collided after that while trying to avoid the first two vehicles.

The alleged reckless driver suffered minor injuries, while the drivers of two of the other three vehicles experienced moderate injuries. Later, while the speeding driver was being treated at a hospital, police arrested him for an earlier outstanding warrant for driving with a suspended license.

It is not yet known whether any of the other drivers involved in the multiple-car collision will be filing lawsuits for compensation based on their injuries and property damage, but drivers in a similar situation should remember that they have the right to speak with an attorney to determine what options they may have for pursuing compensation.

Victims of a car accident may have to deal with expenses stemming from vehicle repairs or replacement, medical bills and lost wages. Taking legal action against a negligent driver can help people collect compensation to cover these costs and focus on recovering from an accident.
